Capital Development, Resources, and Bursary Assistance
The Trust proudly supports Deutsche Schule Durban in its mission to provide an excellent, inclusive, and future-focused education. Through the generosity of our donors, we fund key projects that improve infrastructure, enrich learning, and ensure every child has access to opportunity. Our efforts are organised across the following dedicated funds:
1. Capital Development Fund
This fund supports the development and improvement of the school’s campus infrastructure, creating safe, modern, and inspiring environments for learning and growth. Recent projects made possible through donor support include:
Roof upgrades and solar panel installation: Ensuring uninterrupted learning during power outages, reducing electricity costs, lowering the school's carbon footprint, and exposing students to renewable energy in action.
Construction of the new school building: Expanding classroom capacity and providing updated facilities for teaching and learning.
Kindergarten play area: A vibrant, secure space that encourages physical activity, creative play, and social development in early learners.
Spectator seating at the sports field: Funded by the Liasides Family Trust in memory of Margarete Liasides, offering comfort and community connection during school events.
Improved drainage on the sports field: Providing reliable, all-weather conditions for physical education and school sports.
Library renovation: Transforming the space into an inviting, modern environment for exploration, reading, and imagination.
2. Essential Resources Fund
This fund ensures students and teachers have the necessary tools and resources for effective learning and daily school life. Thanks to your support, we are able to:
Maintain and operate school transport: Donations have enabled the purchase of two Sprinter buses to transport students safely. Regular servicing and maintenance are ongoing needs.
Purchase German textbooks: New materials are acquired annually, but we still aim to provide each student with their own copy.
Equip classrooms with modern furniture and technology: Including desks, chairs, interactive whiteboards, and projectors—tools that directly improve teaching quality and student engagement.
Expand the library's book collection: Giving students greater access to current and relevant reading materials in support of their academic journey.
3. Bursary Support Fund
This fund provides financial assistance to students whose families cannot afford school fees, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to benefit from the excellent education offered at Deutsche Schule Durban—regardless of financial circumstances.
Our vision is to provide a holistic education of a high standard in both German and English for all children of our society, in a Christian context, regardless of background, culture and religion, which will prepare them for a globalised world.
