The DSD Kindergarten welcomes children aged 3 to 6 years into a vibrant, German-speaking environment designed to ignite curiosity and a love for learning. Our comprehensive programme, conducted primarily in German, provides a rich foundation for your child's early educational journey, fostering natural language acquisition from a young age.
Our dedicated and qualified teachers are experts in early childhood development. They ensure that each child’s cognitive, emotional, and motor skills are thoughtfully developed and fostered through a wide array of carefully planned, play-based activities. We focus on building confidence and nurturing individual strengths within a supportive group setting, embodying our holistic approach to education.
Engaging Themes, Joyful Learning
Our dynamic Kindergarten programme is thoughtfully organised around engaging and interesting themes. Daily activities include a stimulating mix of creative arts, music and singing, foundational numerical and language-related group work, imaginative play, and essential physical exercise, ensuring a well-rounded and joyful experience.
German language development is a cornerstone of our Kindergarten, especially as many children join us from homes where German may not be the primary language. Our highly experienced teachers utilise a tried-and-tested pre-school curriculum, expertly guiding all children to acquire and develop robust German language skills.
Beyond the Classroom: Kindergarten Activities
Our Toddler and Kindergarten children can explore a variety of optional extra-murals like Busyballers, Kiddinastics, Build em Bricks, Pottery, Ballet, and Rhythmic Gymnastics. These after-school activities are run by independent instructors and are not covered by school fees. Additionally, Grade R learners can begin introductory Piano, Recorder, Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, and Kids Coding lessons, building early music and tech skills.
The primary goal of our intensive German language focus is to ensure all children are confident and proficient enough to thrive in Grade R, where German becomes the main language of instruction. Our proven curriculum empowers them with the necessary linguistic abilities for a seamless academic transition. To fully benefit from our immersive approach, we strongly encourage parents of children with no prior knowledge of German to enrol them in our Kindergarten from as young an age as possible. This early start is key to playfully mastering German and confidently embracing the unique bilingual, bicultural education that Deutsche Schule Durban offers, preparing them for our blended primary curriculum and a future in an interconnected world.
Our vision is to provide a holistic education of a high standard in both German and English for all children of our society, in a Christian context, regardless of background, culture and religion, which will prepare them for a globalised world.
